SUMMARY:Jain McKay – Painter & Printmaker
DESCRIPTION:Jain’s work is primarily figurative\, rooted in a contemporary visual language that blends painting with elements of printmaking. She describes that she is drawn to the human form as a way of exploring ideas that feel both deeply personal and widely shared – life\, love\, philosophy\, and the process of growth and change. \nFaces\, in particular\, hold a central place in her practice. Jain sees them as more than likenesses; they are portals into inner worlds\, capable of expressing complex emotional and psychological states. Through gesture\, texture\, and layered mark-making\, she aims to suggest something beyond the surface – an invitation to reflect\, question\, and connect. \nThe combination of painting and printmaking allows her to experiment with structure and spontaneity. Jain often builds up surfaces in layers\, embracing imperfections and unexpected outcomes as part of the process. This interplay mirrors the themes she explore: the fluid\, evolving nature of identity and experience. \nUltimately\, her work is about connection – between image and viewer\, thought and feeling\, the seen and the unseen. Each piece is an attempt to capture a moment of introspection\, a fragment of narrative\, or a quiet emotional truth. \nJain is available for commissions and welcomes opportunities to create work that resonates on a personal level. \nThis exhibition is part of the Worcestershire Open Studios Art Week. SUMMARY:Susan Edwards – Contemporary Fine Art Painter
DESCRIPTION:Susan is a contemporary colourist painter working in oils on linen canvas\, and her paintings are immediately recognisable for multi layers of different kinds of vigorous mark making\, using brushes\, palette knives and textures\, with contrasting impasto and translucent paint techniques working together. \nShe interprets the subject intuitively\, translating form through her inherent colour language and letting the painting direct the next step as it progresses.\nThe seascapes and landscapes are usually begun on the spot\, at favourite locations include the Cornish Coast\, the Malvern Hills\, Yorkshire Dales\, and Snowdonia. Similarly\, still life subjects and figure studies are generally begun from life.\nRecent more semi abstract work is evolving in the studio from paintings done en plein air\, and from photographs. \nSusan was traditionally trained at Leeds College of Art and\, over the last decade\, Anthony Eyton RA has been advising her both on her MA and developing new work.\nSusan has exhibited works with the Royal Institute of Oil Painters\, The New English Art Club\, The New Bath Art Club\, Friends of The Royal West of England Academy in Bristol and Women in Art at The Mall Galleries London in recent years and her paintings and portraits have been included in International private collections. \nThis exhibition is part of the Worcestershire Open Studios Art Week. For more information about Susan’s exhibition please click here.  \nA full list of exhibitors at The Open Studios can be found below: \nWOS26-guide
